Good Friday turned out to be not so “good” for a Perseverance, Mahaicony family who got the shock of their lives when a truck slammed their house and toppled it.
Sharda Persaud was at home with her three children when the heavy-duty truck came crashing in around 19:00 hrs Friday. The husband, Bhola Persaud, who was not at home at the time of the incident, said that his 14-year-old daughter, Vedmattie, had to be rushed to the hospital. She received minor injuries and was treated and sent away.
The driver of the truck told Mahaicony police that he received permission from the owner of the truck to drive it and park it in the family’s yard at Lot 14 Perseverance.
However, the owner of the truck has denied that he gave the man permission to drive the truck and as a result Mahaicony police are to charge the man for taking the truck without the consent of the owner.
Apparently, when he decided to drive the truck, the driver had no idea that the brakes were not working. The failed brakes caused the driver to crash into the house, causing much damage and anguish to the family.
According to Bhola Persaud, he has found lodging at his mother’s while he contemplates rebuilding his home, which he had built 15 years ago.
