– On April 3, Commander of Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Commissioner George Alexander Vyphuis and the Vice President of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce Imran Hamid handed over a $100,000 cheque to Mrs. Doreen Glasgow.
The presentation was done at the Whim Police Station.
Mrs. Doreen Glasgow’s son, Constable Trevis Glasgow, was shot dead in the line of duty at the Cromarty Foreshore on Friday November 28, last year.
The 25-year old, of Fyrish Road – Fyrish Village on the Corentyne was said to be the lone breadwinner of his family.
The cheque was handed over on March 27, to the Commander, during the re-commissioning ceremony of the Felix Austin Police College Division ‘B’ since the relatives were not invited to the function.
Vice President of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce Imran Hamid, on March 3rd, said the money was donated by members of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce as a gesture of admiration for the commitment Oslen Glasgow made to uphold law and order.
Commander of Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Commission George Alexander Vyphuis explained to Mrs. Glasgow that the Guyana Police Force did everything it could have done in terms of the paper work and the matter is now in the hands of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
He also explained to her that her son was not eligible for the ‘back pay’ since employees are required to work the entire year before being entitled and that was not the case with her son.
In terms of his pension fund, a welfare officer is to look into the case.
The day she received the cheque, Mrs. Glasgow expressed her gratitude to the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce and indicated that the money would be used to satisfy the immediate needs of the victim’s toddler.
