– PPP’s General Secretary
The General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Donald Ramotar in a statement to the media yesterday extended best wishes to all Guyanese in general and particularly to the Christian community on the occasion of the Easter Holiday.
According to the party, “This holiday has much to inspire people about….It is one that preaches hope.”
The statement noted that the story of the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is inspiring for people who are constantly struggling for peace, progress and prosperity.
“In the darkest period of Christ’s death those who refused to submit had their faith strengthened by the resurrection.”
The statement noted that as the country struggle against the negative consequences of the economic crisis that has gripped the world, “let us hold fast in the conviction that we can overcome this crisis and emerge even stronger.”
According to Ramotar, “Our Party and movement are committed to the ideals of building a Guyana where every Guyanese will have equality of opportunity and where wealth can be created and distributed to all the classes and strata that are involved in positive development in our society.”
He noted also that there is a need to build a society in which its people are aware of the ecological challenges to our world and work with all interested in reversing the harm, which has been done already.
“Our country must always express and extend solidarity and support to all people struggling against oppression of all kinds…As we observe Easter this year, let us be reminded that we must all make a contribution to building a free and just society…Once again a Happy Eater to All.”
