The phrase ‘double dilemma’ was apt to describe the double robbery of a young woman on two consecutive days at the exact location.
On Thursday, around 22:30 hrs, Keneisha Duke (former Kaieteur News reporter) had her gold chained ripped from her neck by two teenagers on bicycle as she was heading home from dancing lessons at the Crystallite Dance Company. The incident occurred at the junction of Pineapple Street and Trench Road, West Ruimveldt.
The two youngsters were later apprehended when they attempted to sell their booty to a man they never suspected to be Duke’s relative who was aware of the incident and knew her gold chain well. The chain was valued at $57,000.
Shockingly, the next night close to the same time, Duke solicited the company of a young male to escort her after dance practice for fear of being attacked again.
Shockingly as the two in merry conversation approached the same location three burly men on bicycles rode up to them and attempted to grab the couple.
Duke’s escort, in fear, ran away and fell into a trench since one of the men aimed a gun at his head, while the others shouted ‘Shoot he, shoot he’.
The other two approached and the frightened dancer in a desperate bid to escape handed over her handbag without being asked. The robbers believing that they had scored big time rode off in haste. Inside the bag however were only several musical CD’s and $500.
Sources in the area attested to the fact that the ‘bicycle gang’, as they call the bandits, has been traversing sections of the city, robbing unsuspecting citizens who go about their errands. The matter has been reported to the East Ruimveldt Police Station.
