Dear Editor,
As we journey through life, it’s the small tools which we may stumble on that truly contributes significantly to the shaping of our well being and moulding.
Fortunately for me, I have been blessed with the friendships of a few persons who were from the old school and there has been so much that was taught and I took in everything for what it was worth because I always knew that it will help me during my adventure. Two readings which I will take to the grave are the following:
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. A home without books is like a body without soul.
In saying this, I will now echo and endorse my support towards the “Reading Contest” which was just launched by the National Library as published in the SN of April 7, 2009.
This venture should definitely be a rewarding experience for the potential academics and the innovative minds behind this should be commended.
However, I couldn’t help, but noticed that it’s not a regional venture and I guess that it’s because of it being the initial venture and resources might not be available for the inclusion of representatives from all regions. If this becomes an annual event, I hope that consideration will be given for those academics from other regions of whom I believe will qualify to the highest standard in comparison to the ones who has the library facilities available to them.
