Pirates struck on Good Friday robbing a fishing vessel off the Number 43 village, Corentyne, foreshore.
Police in a press release said that they are investigating the incident which occurred around 19:00 hours and during which the captain and three crew members were reportedly attacked and robbed by four masked men all armed with firearms.
According to investigators, the boat, captained by one ‘Michael’ was reportedly proceeding to the East Coast Demerara when the armed men came up alongside in another vessel and held the crew at gunpoint.
They then took away a 48-horsepower outboard engine, a compass, GPS set and 400 pounds of fish and escaped.
Meanwhile, police in Berbice arrested an armed robbery suspect, shortly after he committed the act at New Street, New Amsterdam.
Kaieteur News understands that at about 08:00 hours yesterday Ryan Jairam of Port Mourant was attacked and robbed by two men armed with knives.
Jairam was walking along New Street when the men held him up and took away his cell phone and $8,000.00.
He however managed to describe the men to the police. One of the suspects was subsequently arrested and was positively identified by the victim.
