The Guyana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) is playing host to the Caribbean Link of Guiding Conferences from April 17 to April 25.
Two conferences will be held at the St. Paul’s Catholic Retreat Centre, Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
The first conference will be the Triennial Conference of Guide Commissioners from the Caribbean Link of Guiding from April 17, while the second conference is the Caribbean Link of Guiding Guide Trainers Conference, which will run from April 22 over four days.
Participants from the 19 countries in the Caribbean Link of Guiding, will attend the conferences. Two influential women will deliver keynote speeches at the two conferences.
Mrs. Myrna Bernard, Director, Division of Human and Social Development of the CARICOM Secretariat will speak at the Commissioners Conference and Dr. Kathleen Israel, Country Representative of the Pan American Health Organisation, will address the Trainers Conference.
The Guyana Girl Guides Association said that it is privileged to be hosting these conferences because the Link will be celebrating 50 years as a body and that the celebrations are in Guyana. The anniversary celebrations began in 2008 and will culminate with these conferences.
The Patron of the Guyana Girl Guides Association, Mrs. Yvonne Hinds, will also host a reception in honour of the Link’s 50th anniversary on Sunday April 19, at the Umana Yana.
The Caribbean Link of Guiding is an organization comprising all of the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Organisations in the Caribbean.
The Caribbean Link of Guiding deals with matters such as training, raising of standards of Guiding and the Caribbean guide programme. The Caribbean Link was established in 1958.
The Guyana Girl Guides Association is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) which is a non formal educational movement that promotes learning by doing and ensures that all girls strive towards developing her own potential.
The Association incorporates a great deal of outdoor activities into its work programme which helps in building self confidence, self awareness and character.
