The young man, Akeem Andrews was shot in the forehead, just after he reportedly snatched a bag from another person along Main Street.
Details of the incident are sketchy, but this newspaper learnt that the youth was shot as he attempted to make his getaway.
Persons in the area said they heard about three gunshots and when they went to the scene, Andrews was already placed in a police car which sped away to the Georgetown Hospital.
Relatives and residents of the area turned up at the hospital hoping to gather information on what transpired.
The young man’s aunt told this newspaper that she was at home in Rosemary Lane when her telephone rang.
“We phone ring and I hear me daughter holler ‘wha, wha happen?’ and den she tell me ‘Keemie’ just get shoot,” the woman said.
A police source told this newspaper that Andrews is a known character who had pervious brushes with the law.
The source said that from all appearances Andrews was lurking on Main Street to pounce on unsuspecting persons.
According to the source, Andrews snatched a bag from a patron of a nearby business place and as he attempted to escape was shot.
