The Port Mourant Turf Club on the Corentyne Coast will come alive on Sunday when that entity stages its annual Easter one day horserace Meet from 1:00pm.
Seven races are slated for the day’s programme which will have $3M in trophies and cash incentives available for the top performers.
Two main events will feature on the programme; the B and Lower race over 1200m will see the winner receiving $340,000 while those taking part in the and 3-yrs-old open showdown over the1400m has $240,000 to aim for.
The 2-yrs old Open 5 furlongs event and the F and Lower 6 furlongs events carry $200,000 purses.
The F and Lower race, which also covers 1400m, has $220,000 for the winner. The H class 1200m event will see the winner receiving $160,000. There is $120,000 available for the winner of the J and Lower event over 1400m, while the winner of the J class contest over 1200m will see the champion taking away $100,000.The winner of the L class contest collects $90,000 in the 1200m race.
Over 60 horses have registered in what is expected to be grand showdown.
Meanwhile, another Turf Club, the Norman Singh Memorial, will hold a family fun day on Monday at the No. 6 Village West Coast Berbice facility. Several novelty attractions will be on the day’s programme and the entire family is invited. Musical entertainment and beverages including special offers of Banks beer (5 for $1,000) will add to the holiday festivities.
The programme starts at 2:00pm and admission is free.
