Georgetown yesterday notched up their second consecutive win in the German’s Hotel and W&H Rambarran Marine and Transportation to take the lead in the four-team Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association 50 overs under-19 cricket competition.
West Demerara, who lost their opening match to Georgetown on Wednesday, beat East Bank in the other match yesterday and will hope to get into the final by getting past East Coast tomorrow at the Canal Sports Club ground in West Bank Demerara in their next match. Georgetown face East Bank in their next match tomorrow.
At Lusignan, East Coast won the toss and invited Georgetown to bat first in the game which was reduced to a 28-over per side affair due to rain.
National under-17 opener Quincy Ovid-Richardson hit five fours and a six in 42 and got support from Ryan Rajmangal (30), Dexter Solomon (17) and Andre Stoll (17) as the City side, again without their skipper Trevon Griffith, reached 140-9 when their 28 overs expired.
Rajendra Naikbarran took 3-15 from six overs while Ameer Mohamed (2-16 from three overs) and Keon Franklyn (2-30 from six overs) did the damage with the ball for East Coast, who beat West Demerara in their first match the day before.
East Coast were restricted to 94-9 off their 28 overs with Naikbarran leading the way with 41. Delroy Charles supported with 20 while Guyana under-17 pacer Seon Daniels took 2-23 from six overs and National under-19 left-arm unorthodox Totatram Bishun 2-26 from six overs for the visitors.
At the Canal Sports Club in West Demerara, East Bank were bowled out for 68 in 18.2 overs after the game, which was switched from the water logged Wales ground, was reduced to 20 overs due to morning rain.
Jagdesh Bishun (11*) and Ricky Sergeant (11) were the only batsmen to reach double figures for East Bank as leg-spinner Kishan Shivgobin followed up his 5-26 against Georgetown with 3-19 from his allotted four overs.
The La Grange all-rounder got support from Naveed Alli (3-16) and Madha Dhanpaul (1-9) for West Demerara who reached 68-2 to win by eight wickets with 6.4 overs to spare.
Vikash Daniram top scored with 28 while Doesh Sukhu hit an unbeaten 25.
