Terrence Gittens, 59, of 5 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, was yesterday granted bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
On November 25, last, at Aubrey Barker Road, he drove his minibus in a dangerous manner and killed Wendell Christian. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Gittens, he was driving south along Mandela Avenue and then he proceeded into David Rose Street.
He said that he saw Christian coming at a fast rate on his motorcycle and that he tried to avert the accident.
However, Gittens said that his efforts went in vain because the motorcyclist slammed into his minibus.
Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith did not oppose bail but told the court that her facts and the defendant’s differ slightly.
She said that Gittens failed to stop at Aubrey Barker Road and collided with the motorcyclist.
The prosecutor said the injured man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died four days later. She also told the court that some of the passengers in the minibus were also injured in the accident and had to seek medical attention.
Bail was granted in the sum of $300,000. The accused is expected to make his next court appearance on April 30.
