As sporting activities continue to take its hold on the Bartica Community ahead of this weekends Regatta celebrations, cyclists had their turn to shine on Wednesday.
The streets around the Community Centre were transformed into the cycling track and saw some electrifying performances by the competitors.
The open male 6 lap battle saw Emlac Lynch taking the number one position followed by Donovan Washington and K. Fraser, in that order.
On the distaff side, Lydia Mc Andrew took the 3-lap event ahead of Collette Ault and Sharon Devlen.
Donovan Washington capped a good day by claiming the top spot in the boys under-16, 3 lap contest. Jevin Gardner took the runner up spot followed by Dale Bissoon.
Crossing the first among the under-16 females (3-lap) was Maxadella James, Lillian Mc Andrew and Merissa Dover in that order.
First in the one lap boys under-11 race was Luciano Narine with the 2nd and 3rd positions going to Ronario Smartt and Leslie Mc Andrew.
Trophies for this event were sponsored by Xclusive Classics and Baney’s Bakery both of Second Avenue, Bartica.
Football
The football competition has reached the semi-final stage following the last round of group matches on Wednesday night when South Bartica turned back the challenge of the New York based Red Earth 2-0. North were also in no nonsense mood whipping Central 3-0.
Linden Wallerson and Andre Dutchin were the players on target for South in their win while Kurt Welcome, Jermaine Christian and Chris Jones tucked in one each in North’s win over Central.
The semi-finals were slated for last evening, Central engaged South while North were down to tangle with Red Earth.
The respective winners will face off in the championship match tomorrow evening at the Bartica Community Centre ground with the losers meeting in the third and fourth place encounter.
Meanwhile, the final of the dominos competition sponsored by the Trophy Stall will be played tomorrow evening.
