Clement Bailey, who is accused of shooting and killing a young barber at a nightspot in 2007, yesterday pleaded guilty to a lesser count of manslaughter.
Bailey’s trial was fixed for commencement yesterday as the jury was impaneled the day before. However, he opted to plead guilty to manslaughter.
The matter has been adjourned for April 16 for sentencing. A probation report is to be tendered on that date.
The matter is being heard by Justice William Ramlal.
Bailey was charged with the murder of West Ruimveldt barber, Clifton Garraway. At the time of the incident Bailey held the rank of Lance Corporal of the Guyana Police Force.
Garraway, 26, was shot dead outside a popular Garnett Street night club on February 25, 2007.
Bailey had made his first court appearance before Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan back in March 6, 2007. He was committed to stand trial on March 7, 2008.
Bailey is also said to be the former driver of the Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee.
