New York based Red Earth opened their quest for top honours in the Bartica Regatta 2K9 football tournament with a comfortable 3-0 win over Potaro on Tuesday evening at the Bartica Community Centre ground.
Also winning on the night, but in a tense showdown, were Central Bartica by a 4-3 margin over River’s View.
Both River’s View and Potaro have been knocked out of the six-team competition which means that the four remaining teams will contest the semi-finals slated for this evening at the same venue. Last evening’s remaining group matches were to settle who will end at the top of each group, ‘A’ and ‘B’ as well as providing much needed playing time ahead of the semis. North was set to face Central with Red Earth taking on South.
Red Earth’s win on Tuesday was engineered by a Travis Mc Donald double, Marvin Hoyte scoring the other. On target for Central were Eon Gomes with a brace and one each from Oswald Hernandez and Leon Canterbury.
River’s View tucked in their goals via efforts by Terry Williams, George Mentis and Romel Prince. The final and 3rd place playoff is set for Saturday night.
