Devon Limerick, 31, who surrendered to police on Monday last in Berbice, has been charged for the murder of Beverley Mangru.
The accused made his appearance yesterday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fazil Azeez.
It is alleged that on April 1, last, Limerick killed Mangru. He was not required to plead.
During his court appearance, Limerick stood with a blank stare and when questioned by the Magistrate refused to answer.
The man portrayed signs of being of unsound mind, causing the Magistrate to order that Limerick be seen by a doctor for evaluation.
The accused was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor who deemed him fit.
He was then taken to the Camp Street Prison where he will stay until May 20 when his case is expected to be called again.
Limerick was wanted in connection with the April 1 fatal stabbing of Beverley Mangru, at her residence on 77 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop. The suspect fled the scene of the crime, after locking the front door of the house and the gate, preventing anyone from entering the house and rendering assistance to the wounded woman.
Mangru’s body was discovered in a pool of blood, after police ranks were forced to break down the front door of the house in order to gain access to the body.
