Guyana & Trinidad Mutual Fire Insurance Company Ltd (GTM) continued its strong linkage with the Guyana Cricket Board after undertaking another year of sponsorship of Under-19 cricket during a simple ceremony yesterday in the entity’s Boardroom.
Attended by executives of the GCB headed by President Chetram Singh, the Company presented a cheque of $3.1 million for the running of both the 3-day and 50-over versions of the Inter-County U-19 Competition.
Singh speaking on behalf of the Board said that they were extremely pleased with the continued support of GTM, a relationship that is in its 30th year.
“I would like to extend thanks to GTM for maintaining its commitment to support the development of our junior players and if I’m not wrong, this is possibly the longest serving sponsorship that I know of not only in Guyana, but the Caribbean as well,” Singh said.
Singh added that this year, the tournament will be taken out of Georgetown at least for the opening rounds where matches will be played at Anna Regina in the 3-day segment, while a 50 overs match is scheduled for Albion.
The competition is scheduled to commence on April 18-20 with Essequibo hosting Demerara, while they entertain Berbice in the second game from April 22-24.
The limited overs version will start on April 30 and conclude on May 3.
