The metamorphosis of basketball in Georgetown was so complete that reservations must be the foundation of any prediction of a likely winner of the upcoming basketball fun day and Bar–b–Que on Burnham Court this weekend.
Courts Pacesetters are the defending Division I winners of the popular five-a-side version of basketball in Georgetown but it was unclear yesterday whether the team’s coach will put a similar combination together on Sunday. Speaking to Kaieteur Sport for the first time since his disappointing second round defeat in the Next Level Entertainment championships last month, Robert Cadogan said that there will be likely changes to his defending five.

“There might be one or two changes to that five,” Cadogan said about his winning five in the previous such competition. Among the players on that team were Stephon Gillis, Peabo Hamilton, Clement Brusche and Royston Siland.
Cadogan indicated that it would be a major boost to his team if they can win. He was sure that with the home court advantage, Pacesetters should do well. “You can’t let someone come in your house and beat you,” he said.

The Burnham Basketball Court is home to Courts Pacesetters and Bounty Colts. The two clubs use the venue to practice on alternate days of the week. Colts could also stake a valid ‘home court advantage’ claim as Pacesetters.
However, with the evasive ‘Next Level’ 2009 title behind them, Ravens will field strong ‘fives’ for the event where every club is allowed to enter at least three teams. This means that a club could play against itself in the final.

The event, which was officially identified as a Five–A–Side Basketball Family Fun Day, is expected to be in the form of a retreat for clubs and family members to jump start the following weekend’s Division I and III Seasons.
