Most of the top horses in the country have taken entry for the grand one Port Mourant Turf club Easter race meet set for Sunday at the Club’s Track situated at Port Mourant, Corentyne Berbice.
When entries closed on Sunday last, some 60 horses had already registered in what is expected to be grand showdown.
Of the Seven races listed to be contested on the days programme, three are feature events with the winners taking home over $200,000 in each of the three races. Horses classified B and lower and the 3 years old open along with the F class gallops will see the top gunners in action.
The B and Lower race over a distance of 1200m has a whopping $340,000 and the Dr Dwight Walrond Trophy up for the taking and among those entered are Isle Be thru, Delmur Gold, Sequins, Miss Republic, Annie’s Play Mate, Finally Jade, Jumbo Joy Tropical Passion and Too Straight.
The 3-yrs-old open showdown over the1400m will see the likes of Coconut Boy battling La Bayamosa, Sweet Romance, De Lyon, Prixie Fire, Over D Map, Pleasure Star, and Tidal Wave for the $240,000 first prize.
Among those in contention in the F and Lower event are Fresh Prospect, Face De Music, The Message, Pinch D Cash and Laura Lee in Flight in the 1400m race with the champion receiving $220,000.
Other events listed for the days programme are the ‘H class 1200m with the winner receiving $160,000. There is $120,000 available for the winner of the J and Lower event over 1400m; the J class 1200m contest carries a $100,000 purse. The winner of the L class event will claim $90,000 in the 1200m race.
Some of the other horses down to do battle during the day are Kavinci, Showing Up, Choice Return, Sean Paul, Channel Boy, Perfect Drift, Royal Champion Brown Boy Finishing Touch, Silver Kid, Wonder Lite.
Over $3M in trophies and cash incentives are available for the winners and other outstanding performers. While the champion jockey and Trainer will receive trophies compliments of Kevin Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda market.
