The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has set up three tax sites in Georgetown, to educate and sensitize the public on the importance of filing their tax returns. These sites will be functioning until April 30.
Senior Public Relations Manager at the GRA, Peter Fraser, said that all tax returns were due at the end of this month and if they were not filed on time, they would attract penalties.
Fraser said that persons who could not file their tax returns at the various GRA locations about the city could file them at these temporary facilities. He also pointed out that persons who are unsure of how to fill out their tax returns can seek advice at the tax sites, as GRA personnel would be only willing to provide whatever advice they could.
Meanwhile, persons who are still without their Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) could fill out the applications at these tax sites.
In Georgetown, the GRA tax sites are set up at the City Mall on Regent Street, N&S Mattai & Company on Water Street and at Quik Serv on Sherrif Street.
The GRA intends to take these tax sites to various locations outside of Georgetown. Tentatively, the GRA plans to go to Essequibo and other locations sometime next week.
At the tax sites in Georgetown, GRA personnel said that the response from the public has been fair, with a number of persons making enquiries.
Added to this, a number of persons without TINs had uplifted the necessary application forms.
However, the GRA staff members at the tax sites reported that only a few persons had come in to file their tax returns.
More are expected to come in as the April 30 deadline draws nearer.
