The Parrot was unavoidably absent for about two weeks. Apologies. Many things happened during that time, most notably the death of former President and founding member of the PPP, Janet Jagan.
Much has been said about her illustrious life; a life of selfless dedication to the improvement of the lives of all Guyanese. This dedication lasted for over sixty-five years. She was an inspiration to all, especially women.
Her indelible contributions will always be an integral part of this country’s history. The Jagan’s legacy will live on.
On a much lighter note, some things in Guyana will live on, not for their illustriousness as that of the Jagans’ legacy, but for being a part of the mosaic that makes up the country.
Those who do not share the administration’s views will continue to postulate in this free society in which democracy prevails. After all, this is a tenet of democracy. This will live on. Over the last seventeen years many with opposing views and who are indirectly a part of the opposition, have mushroomed and have enjoyed the bliss of a free society.
They have used their positions to blister, as we say colloquially, the administration. One such “blisterer” is Uncle Freddie. While he now enjoys the comforts of a democracy, he does not have the right to propagate unfounded accusations, to assassinate people’s character and to be downright nasty.
One can be objective in his/her criticisms. Freddie is not. He indulges in the same things he accuses others of.
Democracy has been taken advantage of. Hypocrisy has taken over. Much has been said about Freddie’s rants. One thing that will live on is that some people, like children, will do things just for attention.
Some opined that Freddie may be exhibiting symptoms of “infantism”. This debate will live on.
One of his recent articles caught my attention. Now, Freddie has problems with everyone and everything; from the seawall to disposing of cut grass and from ruling politicians to the ordinary man. You name it and Freddie has a problem with it.
Some also opined that Freddie may have a problem with Freddie! You figure that.
Anyway, having read the article in question, I found out that Freddie has a problem with goats. Yes goats! Apparently some goats roaming in his neighbourhood found their way into his yard and had his garden for lunch. Now, goats, being goats, will look for such delicacies wherever they can be had, even if it is in Freddie’s yard. Question is who left the gate open?
What would you call someone who left the gate open knowing that goats are lurking? I wouldn’t answer that here.
His tirade against the goats led me to believe that Freddie is a GOAT. Now, I don’t mean this in a derogatory way. But given his public position on the administration, he is a Generator Of Anti-government Tirades (GOAT). By his own admission he is a GOAT. This has absolutely nothing to do with animals which ate his garden and the fact that the gate was left open.
He has been relentless in his condemnation of this administration and has sought to alter history as it relates to the contributions of the Jagans. GOAT. They say, once a child, always a child. Once a GOAT…well you finish that. Some things will live on. Squawk! Squawk!
