Police in Parika are looking for a 25-year-old man who attacked his stepfather early yesterday morning leaving him in a critical condition.
Reports are that 58-year-old Norville Rockliffe was attacked in his sitting room some time around 6:00 hours yesterday by his stepson.
A relative of the injured man told this newspaper that Rockliffe and his stepson had an altercation the day before the incident and that may have led to the attack.
However it is still not clear what the man’s stepson used to attack him.
According to reports from all indication the man’s stepson may have used a blunt cutlass.
The man sustained a gaping wound to his head, which now carries some 30-odd stitches.
Reports are that the 25-year-old man lives with Rockliffe and is in the habit of stealing money from the home.
On Sunday, Rockcliffe noticed that $55,000 was missing from his home and he simply enquired from his stepson if he had any knowledge of the money.
“His stepson was drinking so he asked him ‘boy u aint draw pay how come u get money fuh sport?” a relative said.
According to the relative Rockliffe then went to make a report to the Parika Police Station about the missing money and about some threats he received from his stepson.
Some time around midnight on Sunday, Rockcliffe’s stepson went home but the man refused to open the door because he feared for his life.
Yesterday morning as Rockcliffe was preparing for work his stepson entered the house and attacked him from behind and fled the home.
After hearing loud screams, neighbours rushed to the injured man’s assistance. Rockcliffe was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, then to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and subsequently to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
For most of yesterday, the injured man was in an unconscious state. He however regained consciousness late yesterday evening. His condition is listed as critical and up to press time yesterday the police were still trying to locate the man’s stepson.
