Senior National Champion Kriskal Persaud and Dennis Dillon played unbeaten on the opening day in the senior category of the Keishar’s Easter Open Chess Tournament.
Persaud started in fine form, defeating Abdool Karamdat in just twenty seven moves. His second match of the day was a repeat of the final round of the DDL Mash Tournament, where he had lost to junior champion Taffin Khan, however, Persaud fought hard to secure the win over Khan. In other highlighted games of the day, Michael Perreira defeated Errol Tiwari, Craig Sylvester defeated David Khan, Chino Chung defeated Tiwari and Abdool Karamdat defeated Learie Webster.
The points standing after three rounds, Kriskal Persaud and Dennis Dillon three, Taffin Khan, Michael Cleghorne, Craig Sylvester, Omar Shariff, Brian Thompson, Neil Khan, Alexander Duncan and Shiv Nandalall on two points, David Khan, Learie Webster, Abdool Karamdat, Chino Chung, Michael Perreira and Irshad Mohamed on one point, Sherlock Atwell and Errol Tiwari on half of a point.
In the junior category, Stephney and Khan were the only two to play unbeaten on the first day, both players have three points. Khalid Gajraj, Rashad Hussain, Sham Khan, and Kieron Simon are locked on two points each, Imran Shaw and Irshad Ishmael on one and a half, Crystal Khan, Cecil Cox, Judah Stephney and Clive Bender on one apiece, while Denzel Dillon and Aslam Hussain are yet to score.
Another round is slated for Wednesday from 17: 00hrs at the same venue, while one round will be contested on Saturday from 16: 00hrs and the remaining three rounds will take place on Sunday from 10: 00hrs.
