The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP), scheduled for March 29, has been postponed indefinitely because executives of that Association are not yet ready to present the accounting figures to their auditors.
Acting President of GASP, Colin Chichester made this disclosure during a telephone interview with this newspaper.
He said that the report was initially scheduled to be tabled by this month end but his executives were unable to complete all of the prerequisites.
Meanwhile several tournaments have been planned for this month starting with the Adult Education Lien trophy on Tuesday March 10.
The tournament will attract the country’s top players the likes of Abigail McDonald and national champion, Fred Collins. Ulric ‘The Master’ Harris had carted off the previous trophy put up for this tournament after inscribing his name three times. He will also fancy his chances of being the first to place a notch on this new trophy.
Novice players will also get a chance to display their skills at a tournament specially arranged for them on March 11. This tournament is arranged for players with little or no experience in the game as GASP attempts to inaugurate a fresh group of players into the sport.
The players will then return for another tournament, this time the intermediate, scheduled for March 22. This tournament is also designed to allow successful players competing in the novices to move up into the bigger league.
All tournaments will be played at the Chamber of Commerce building, Waterloo Street, South Cummingsburg.
