Dear Editor,
It is said that an old fisherman or an old policeman never loses their rank. So, bear with what exudes from this ‘Ole Peleese’.
The idea of removing slogans from some classes of vehicles is a good one. Some slogans are funny, and many are unethical. But, then again, a few are inspiring. Why should the few be removed? Separate the wheat and the tares!
A gentleman said to me, “Neighbour, ah two years now since me put this bus pon the road, and me never had accident, and I believe that is because of the name Anointed. When me remove am, is not the same bus na-more!” This religious grey-beard touched me. Then I observed a few others with similar slogans, to wit, God’s Gift, Worship Allah, Vishnu Guides Me and The Twenty Third Psalm. They impart solace!
I, respectfully, suggest that the owners apply to carry slogans at a stated place on the vehicle and if approved, obtain a certificate to the effect.
By the way, the regular radio with normal speakers should remain – communication of danger ahead may save lives!
Gershom Prince
