The victims are 37 year-old Brian Hendy of Berbice and 40 year-old Albert Persaud of the Pomeroon. Both men were miners.
Meanwhile, those who were injured in the accident have also been identified.
According to a police source, the injured men, Clive Bolney 48, of Tucville Terrace, Linden Semple, 44 of the Pomeroon, Abdool Puran 27 of Parika and a17 year-old were all treated at the Bartica Hospital on Saturday night and sent away.
This newspaper was told that the dead and injured were all brought out from the accident site late Saturday evening because of the condition of the trail, which the vehicle that transported them had to traverse.
On Saturday last around 11:00 hours at New Road Aranapai, in the Puruni area, a truck GLL2372 was heading downhill when one of the rear wheels hit a stone. The vehicle then overturned.
Reports are that the vehicle was traveling at a very fast rate and this may have also contributed to the accident.
