Dear Editor,
The emotional farewell he has bestowed on the late great ‘Mother of the Nation’ has broken the silence of the PPP/C and its supporters on the manner section of the population of their barefaced arrogance and crude manoeuvering during the testing 1997-1999 period of Mrs. Janet Jagan O.E political career.
Mr. Clement Rohee has truly demonstrated himself as a resolute follower, a member and part of the Jagan’s team at freedom house. Those of us who witnessed, listened and watched and grieve with him, mourn with him, know and feel and share the pain and suffering and anguish of a woman who dedicated her life for freedom of oppression of any form and the right for all of us to enjoy democracy and experience justice.
It is sad too, that those who aided and abetted this cowardly, ungodly act of witchcraft and sorcery on the streets of Georgetown never saw it fit to condemn the shame or repent from their ways.
Indeed Mrs. Janet Jagan O.E. was an extra ordinary woman who went thru extraordinary struggles in extraordinary time for a people that has become her people who unreservedly accepted her as a fighter for women rights, for bread and justice and against poverty and victimisation. She was part of us…a woman of substance, a woman of noble character who went about her work vigorously, who opened her arms to the poor and extended her hands to the needy and was full of love for all she met.
Thank you Mr. Rohee for vindicating our feelings ably expressed in the eulogy of a fallen comrade, thank you for letting the world know that in the human embodiment there is not only feelings of pain of ungratefulness but dignified forgiveness.
We must never forget to teach our children that once upon a time in this dear land of Guyana two freedom fighters started a movement with dedication and perseverance to rid our country of colonial oppression.
The oppressors and haters must admit their faults, stop the politics of division and hatred, stop shouting about discrimination, admit they rigged elections to stay in power and seek genuine forgiveness. Then and only then will our nation and our land be fully healed?
