With the S&S Promotions, boxing extravaganza less than three weeks away the boxers have intensified their preparation for what undoubtedly promises to be a humdinger.
The highly anticipated middleweight title clash between Lennox ‘Pretty Boy’ Alleyne and Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman, for the latter’s middleweight title promises to be a scorcher since both principals are already in intense training; Eastman in Linden and Alleyne at the famous Kick Boxing Gym in downtown Miami Florida, USA.
The fight scheduled for April 25 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall has already captured the imagination of boxing pundits and while this bout promises much, fans are guaranteed a night of fistic fury from the first gong.
The highly touted cruiserweight bout between debutants Debbie ‘The Tiger’ Tyson and Lindener, Avlon Scotland has already caught the imagination of boxing buffs.
Dubbed the fight between the ‘Green Dungs’ and slated for four rounds, the fight promises to display the talent of two young and determined fighters who, unfortunately have developed an instant dislike for each other.
Yesterday, Kaieteur Sport attempted to speak with the two principals but was only able to make contact with Tyson. The mother of two is oozing confidence but has stopped short of making a prediction. However, she did acknowledge that she is the less experienced of the two.
“This is Scotland’s first professional fight but she has had several amateur fights under her belt so I know she would feel as though she has the advantage over me,” Tyson said. However, she has warned Scotland that she has a few surprises to spring on her. “It matters not how the win comes, all I know is that I will win,” Tyson stated matter of factly.
She is currently working out at the Andrew ‘Sixheads’ Lewis Boxing Gym (ALBG) under the tutelage of Lennox ‘Cappel’ Daniels. Daniels feels that his charge has what it takes to win this bout and has put together a stern training programme for her.
Tyson’s day starts from 05:00hrs in the morning with about three miles of roadwork. She then returns to the gym in the afternoon for bag work, shadow boxing and speed bag drill.
The other fight that has caught the imagination of pundits is the bantamweight clash between champion, Dexter Marques and veteran Paul Lewis.
Marques earned the title after stopping Orland ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers on the Guyana Boxing Board’s ‘Clash of Champions’ card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall October last. Lewis. On the other hand has had an extended period of more than two decades in the amateur department so while he may be a young professional boxer (losing his debut bout to Leon Moore), he is certainly a cagey customer and Marques would do well to take his training seriously.
Meanwhile, Quacy ‘Mommy Golden Boy’ Jones, fresh from a third round knockout over Patrick Boston will be out to replicate that performance against debutant, Randy Tello. He was also hard at work on the heavy bag at the ALBG when Kaieteur Sport visited that institution Friday last.
The fight between Shondell Alfred and Stephney ‘Stepping Razor’ George also promises to be a scorcher.
Both women are known for their aggressive approach to the sport but have been away from the ring for an extended period.
They both have international experience after fighting in Trinidad and Tobago and Canada among other countries. They will go after each other in an eight round bantamweight affair.
Fans could anticipate added excitement when Shelly ‘The boom’ Gibson and Shondelle Parks square off over four rounds. Both principals have been involved in crowd pleasers before but this is the first time that they will face each other. A highly entertaining bout is envisaged.
The bout is organized by S&S Promotions and is the second such cards by this group for the year. Kaieteur Sport would be following the progress of the respective fighters during their preparations.
