Rasta’s overcome Baldheads
A ‘Just Over 15 side’ defeated their ‘Just Under 15’ counterparts 3-2, when the ‘I Movement Promotions’ of Bartica organized a warm up game in preparation of the impending Sub-Associations football championships in that region.
The second match of the exciting double header saw the Rastafarians subduing the Baldheads 5-4, on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time failed to separate the teams.
Clive Welcome opened the ‘Just Over U-15’ account from a free kick, before Whitney Welcome equalized shortly afterwards. Aloysius Edwards then fired in a second goal to propel his team back in the lead moments before the whistle to end the first half.
The ‘Just Over 15’ came out purposefully in the second half with striker, Andel Norton netting a double to seal the deal for the ‘Just Over 15’ team.
Earlier, the Rastafarians defeated the Baldheads 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the two teams ended regulation time, nil all. Scoring for the Rastafarians were, Richard Jones, Dean Washington, Leon Garraway, Derick Lynch and Quacy Joseph.
For their efforts, the Rastafarians pocketed a first prize of $50,000, while baldheads received $20,000.
During a specially arranged penalty shootout, all of the scorers received one thousand dollars for each goal scored while the ‘keeper’ received a similar amount for goals saved.
The organizers also wish to thank the sponsors for making the occasion a success. Among them are, Pure Diamonds, Neighbourhood Pharmacy, Atkinson Trading, Kenneth Williams and Dens Investments.
