Police on the Essequibo Coast have detained a Pomeroon man who admitted to being the father of his 16- year-old daughter’s unborn baby.
This newspaper was told that the man was taken into police custody some time on Friday after a report was made by the child’s mother.
Reports are that the 53-year-old man, who lives with his wife and other children, began molesting his daughter some time during September of last year.
However the incident only came to light earlier this week when the mother of the child noticed her daughter’s tummy was higher than usual.
During questioning, the teenager related to her mother that her father had been molesting her for the longest while and that she may be pregnant. She added that she was only molested when her mother and other siblings were away from the house.
The matter was immediately reported and the child was sent for a medical examination. That examination revealed that the child was repeatedly sexually molested, and that she is six months’ pregnant.
The child’s father was called in by the police for questioning and reportedly admitted that he was indeed sexually involved with his daughter and that he is the father of the baby she is carrying.
Meanwhile a source close to the investigation said that charges would be instituted against the 53-year-old man who hails from Green Heart Creek, Karawab in the Upper Pomeroon.
