The best shooters in the land collide
The 2009 Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) Fullbore championships is expected to shoot off today at the Timehri Rifle Ranges.
The best shooters in the land headed by current national champions Ransford Goodluck will battle over three days to decide who is the top marksman in Guyana.
While Goodluck is respected among his peers as a tough competitor, it is expected that stiff competition will come from the likes of National Captain and close rival Mahendra Persaud, Richard and Dylan Fields, Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe, Ryan Sampson, Dane Blair and Claude Duguid among others. The O’ Class is also expected to be keen.
Apart from seeking national glory, this championship will be used as warm up for the Caribbean Championships scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago, next month.
Day one today will see competitors shooting 2 rounds of 7 shots at the 300 yard range along with 2 rounds of 10 shots at 500 and 900 yard ranges. The top shooter at the 500 range will win Valladares trophy.
Day two, which will be contested next Saturday, will see rivalry at the 300 (2 at 10) and 600 (2 at 7) yards while the final day, next Sunday, the action will end with 2 rounds of 7 at 500, 2 rounds of 10 at 600 and 2 rounds of 10 at 1000. Staring time today is 11:00hrs. (Franklin Wilson)
