A cave in of an excavated pit, in White Water Backdam, Konawaruk, during heavy rainfall, claimed the life of a French geologist, Guy Gois.
According to a police report, the 56-year-old geologist was taking soil samples, at approximately 12:15 hours on Friday last, from the excavated pit, when it caved in, trapping him.
The body was dug out some time later and was taken to the Mahdia Hospital, where Gois was pronounced dead on arrival. Since then, the body had been brought to Georgetown and now lies at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
The French geologist was attached to River Gold Guyana Incorporated, which has its operations at Konawaruk.
