Five batsmen hit centuries while 16-year-old National U-17 off-spinner Ricardo Devers grabbed a match haul of 7-98 including 5-65 for Police on his first division debut in the third round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Cellink plus two-day first division cricket competition last weekend.
Former National 20/20 player Orin Forde and Imran Hussain cracked attractive centuries against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to help Malteenoes Sports club to register the only outright win of the weekend while Rawle Browne, Marcus Watkins and Ravi Sarwan also scored tons.
National under-19 left-arm spinner Totaram Bishun, playing for DCC, took 5-53 against Police while Vishal Jaigobin captured 5-82 for the Lawmen in DCC’s second innings.
At DCC the hosts made 290 with national under-19 left-handed opener Trevon Griffith top scoring with 40. He got support from fellow Guyana under-19 player Royston Alkins (39) and wicketkeeper Denver Greaves (34) as Devers, the son of former Guyana off-spinner Sean Devers, grabbed 5-65 in his first game at this level.
Browne, the brother of former Guyana players Barrington and Robin Browne, then smashed 13 fours and five sixes in an enterprising 123, but only Jason Heyliger (23) of the other batsmen offered support as the Cops fell for 228 with Bishun taking 5-53 and Griffith 3-10.
With a lead of 62, DCC reached 208-8 declared in their second innings with Griffith hitting an even half-century. Troy Nurse (38), Denis Squires (34), Ron Ramnauth (32) and Leroy Bristol (30) offered support as Devers took 2-33. Police were 27-0 in their second innings when the game ended.
At Bourda, Marcus Watkins slammed 16 fours and two sixes in his 108 and got support from Shane Cummins (93) and Steven Alves (50) as Transport Sports Club (TSC) fell for 369 against GCC.
GCC reached 370 to take first innings points as Sarwan, a former Guyana under-15 player and the brother of West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, hit a carefully constructed 107 with five boundaries. Left-hander Waslim Haslim (76) and Treon Forde (46) also contributed for GCC as Watkins returned with the ball to take 4-55 and got support from Carl Rambharose (3-63).
At Everest, the home team took first innings points from GNIC after making 258-8 declared in reply to GNIC’s 193.
Attacking opener Quincy Ovid-Richardson (50) and his National under-19 Skipper Dexter Solomon (42) were the main scorers for GNIC as former Guyana under-19 pacer Leon Scott captured 4-63. The leg-spin pair of former Guyana under-19 player and West Indies under-19 bowler Amir Khan each took 2-17 while Ex-National under-19 skipper Sauid Drepaul had 2-28 with his left-arm spin.
Surendra Herilall (59) and Gonsalves (52) made half-centuries while Ablish Dookie scored 45 as Ken Alphonso took 3-61 and off-spinner Collis Butts, the son of former West Indies Test off-spinner Clyde Butts had 2-75.
Former Guyana pacer Rayon Griffith hammered a top score of 70 as GNIC made 163 in their second innings with Khan taking 3-20 and Drepaul 3-47.
Set 102 to win Everest were wobbling on the ropes on 35-5 when play ended.
The competition continues this weekend with third round matches.
