The Guyana Arts and Craft Producers Association of Guyana is gearing up to mark its presence at the Lethem Rodeo, while at the same time, hoping to establish markets in neighbouring Brazil.
This association was formed last year March with the main objective of bringing all local art and craft producers together from the ten administrative regions, so that they can be an established body, and become more recognized.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association, Patricia Helwig, told Kaieteur News yesterday that ever since the establishment of the body, the association has been able to bring about 20 persons from the hinterland areas, with art and craft talent.
She explained that the association is also working towards creating its own office facility and exhibition center by next year. The facility will provide arts and craft producers with an opportunity to sell their products wholesale and retail.
The PRO also noted that the executive body of the association along with GoInvest recently visited Lethem and Brazil to make preparations for the Rupununi Rodeo, where unique craft pieces will be displayed.
According to Helwig, this would allow the producers an opportunity to showcase their products and to even gain market access in Brazil.
During the visit to Brazil, she noted that many producers in that country expressed their interest in what Guyana has to offer as it relates to the quality of art and craft in the country.
The producers are also looking at the possibility of setting up a craft complex at the Lethem Commercial Area.
