Coach of the Guyana female team to the West Indies Female under-19 cricket tournament which bowls off on Monday Michael Franco Hyles is confident that the team will give a very good account of themselves.
Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago make up zone 1 while the countries in zone 2 are Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica and Dominica.
The Guyanese, who were encamped from March 19-29 at the Essequibo Cricket Board Hostel, Anna Regina, will take on St. Vincent & the Grenadines at Monchy in their first game on Monday.
Hyles, a former Guyana all-rounder said the Camp went well despite the weather being a challenge but they were able to alter their programme to suit conditions.
“I think every thing went well in general, we were able to use the pavilion and a near by basketball court to conduct sessions when the ground was unavailable. I am confident that we will give a very good account of ourselves in St. Lucia.”
Hyles also reported that Coaches Alfred Maycock and Forbes Daniels worked along with him. “I also did some sessions with a group of very promising fast bowlers in the Cinderella County.”
The hospitable staff at the Hostel was complimented by Hyles for splendid service rendered to the team while there.
The team which would be managed by Marcel Griffith is expected to regroup today with the Guyana Cricket Board hosting a dinner in their honour this evening at the Water Chris International Hotel. The squad of 14 players along with the management team will leave tomorrow afternoon for St. Lucia via Barbados.
The 14 member squad reads: Shemain Campbell, Marina Brijmohan, Oliva Oselmo, Haseena Mohamed, Desmona Hill, Katana Mentore, Latoya Smith, Jessica Gonsalves, Jacqulyn Singh, Heema Singh, Anganie Lalbachan, Nayesha Khan, Timeca Kerr and Resha Khan.
