Brave minibus driver, Lincoln Bristol, yesterday recounted his fight with a gun-toting robber which ended in him being hospitalized with four bullet wounds.
The 69-year-old ‘A’ Field, Sophia resident was shot in the abdomen, left side knee and near his right eye during his fight with the gunman and an accomplice, who attacked him outside his home at around 22:30 hrs on Wednesday.
The bandit also bit off a portion of Bristol’s right ear.
Bristol has since undergone surgery but appeared none the worse for the wear yesterday as he chatted with visitors at his bedside in Ward B2.
Bristol told Kaieteur News that he had just arrived home and was opening his gate to drive into the yard when two men approached him. One of them had a handgun.
“One of them say ‘pass it’, and then he (the gunman) fire a bullet at my knee and I attack him,” the burly minibus driver recalled.
“Me and he scuffle with the gun and he bit me.”
Bristol said that the bandit eventually managed to overpower and shoot him in the stomach, left side and in the vicinity of the right eye.
The robbers then relieved him of about $10,000.
“I hollered for my nephew and my son and they run away.”
Devon Bristol, the victim’s son, said that he was inside his father’s house when he heard the gunshots.
“I hear him (Mr. Bristol) hollering ‘I gun dead’ and then ‘I ain’t giving up so,’ then more shots,” the son recalled.
“When I hear the last shot I go outside and see one of them running away.”
He threw a hammer shaft at the fleeing man but missed. He said it was too dark to recognize the robber.
The son said that after the bandits fled, his father ran into the family’s yard and lay on the ground.
The wounded man was placed in a minibus and taken to the GPHC.
Mr. Bristol told Kaieteur News he has been driving for several years and was robbed twice before.
