Imam Bacchus X1 defeated Affiance No.1 and Cotton Field by 33 runs respectively when the Ameer Baksh twenty20 cricket competition commenced in Central Essequibo recently.
Playing at the Affiance No.1 ground Imam Bacchus X1 batted first and made 144-9 off their overs. Navindra Persaud led with 72 with extras contributing a healthy 30.
Devindra Narine, Lallbachan Narine and Rayborne Gordon bagged two wickets each for Affiance who were bowled out for 111 in 18.3 overs.
Khemraj Takurdai fell one short of a half century, Oudal Narine made 24. Samuel Baksh took 3-30 and Kholraj Persaud 2-31 for the winners.
In the second game at the same ground Imam Bacchus X1 again batted first and were bowled out for 155 off 16.4 overs. Kholraj Persaud was their leading run getter with 59, extras chipping in with 35.
Bowling for Cotton Field Christopher Persaud had 3-34, Mahendra Boodram 3-18 and Travis Simon 2-22.
In their turn at the crease Cotton Field were bowled out for 123 in 15.2 overs. Simon returned with the bat to score 31 while Suraj Raja made 29. Yougeshwar Lall had figures of 3-7 off 3 overs for Imam Bacchus X1.
The competition continues next weekend with Cotton Field facing Anna Regina Mulitlateral Teachers at Affiance No.1 ground and Imam Bacchus doing battle with host Queenstown.
