A 39 year old woman was stabbed to death last evening during a heated row with her reputed husband who has since gone into hiding.
Beverley Ann Mangroo known as “Pam”, of 77 New Road Vreed-en-Hoop was found lying in a pool of blood after detectives broke down the woman’s front door to gain access to her.
The incident occurred at around 19:30 hours and has left the entire neighbourhood in a state of disbelief as yet another case of domestic violence ended in death.
According to neighbours the mother of four lived at the home with the suspect and two of her eldest children.
One neighbour who wanted to remain anonymous told this newspaper that she last saw Mangruo around 17:30 hrs yesterday. “I see she yesterday afternoon when she come home from work”.
According to the dead woman’s landlord who, lives in the upper flat of the building, the couple was heard arguing, but no one took it seriously.
The elderly man said that he and his wife were watching television and continued listening to the couple who started to raise angry voices at each other.
The man said that as the argument escalated he was prompted to call a friend of the woman.
“After we hear de glass breaking and she screaming I call she friend who lives down the street,” the landlord stated.
The man said that it was around 19:30 hrs when he called the friend.
The friend who gave her name as Reshma told this newspaper that she thought the landlord was making a joke since it was “all fools day”.
But after a second call during which she was told that the argument had subsided she became concerned and rushed to Mangroo’s house.
“he said that he wasn’t hearing the woman’s voice anymore,” Reshma recalled.
She added that the landlord told her that he had called the police to check on the woman.
The friend said when she arrived at Mangroo’s house, she was greeted with the sight of a heavy police presence and enquired what was going on.
The police were forced to break the door down, since the suspect had used two heavy duty padlocks on the outside of the door in an effort to prevent anyone from helping the mortally wounded woman.
After seeing the police, Reshma immediately knew that it was no joke and quickly called Mangroo’s relatives.
According to one of the woman sisters Lorraine Persaud, she and the suspect had only been living for about four months.
Other relatives stated that the suspect was very possessive and this had caused the woman to tell him that she wanted the relationship to end on Tuesday.
“She tell he why he don’t leave she alone and go and spend some time with he relatives, but he refused.”
Another relative told this newspaper that the suspect had to be in constant contact with Mangruo and if he didn’t, he would accuse her of her being unfaithful.
“Imagine she went to court because she has a matter and she was taking a while. He reach down at the court house just to see what Pam doing.”
The woman’s eldest daughter who was unaware of the death collapsed as relatives told her that her mother was murdered.
The body was later taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital mortuary.
Police sources told Kaieteur News that they have since launched a massive manhunt for the suspect.
Mangroo, who would have celebrated her birthday on tomorrow leaves to mourn her four children along with five other siblings and her elderly parents.
