The Guyana Chess Federation will conduct an eight round Swiss System Chess tournament sponsored by Keishar’s Gift Shoppe from Sunday April 5, ending on Sunday April 12 at the Keishar’s Staff Club, Lot 1 ‘C’ Hadfield St, Werk-en-rust, Georgetown.
The tournament is open to all male and female chess players in the senior and junior categories. Keishar’s Gift Certificates will be awarded to players in both categories. First prize for the seniors is a $25,000, a gift certificate plus trophy, second prize $15,000 and a gift certificate while the third prize is $10,000 along with a gift certificate.
The first prize in the junior category is a $15,000, gift certificate and trophy, 2nd $10,000 and gift certificate and 3rd $5,000 and gift certificate. Gift certificates will be awarded separately to the Best Female Player and Best Newcomer of the tournament.
Registration begins at 9:30hrs on Sunday at the Hadfield Street venue, two buildings away from the Camp Street Store.
Registration fee for senior members of the Federation is $300 and non-members $800. Tournament fee for junior members is $200 and non-members $600.
Each game is expected to last a maximum two and a half hours and players are asked to walk with tournament size chess sets.
Three rounds are scheduled for Sunday, one round for Wednesday 8th at 17:00hrs, one round on Saturday 11th at 16:00hrs and the remaining three rounds for Sunday April 12 beginning at 10:00hrs.
