Dear Editor,
I am a vendor at the Stabroek Market. I attended one of the public hearings of the Commissioner of Inquiry, at City Hall, because I have a matter concerning a stall at the Stabroek Market.
The Commissioner was kind enough to listen to my situation. But I am waiting to see what the Commissioner will recommend to help the vendors in the markets as we are suffering from poor conditions there.
The market could be a good boost to the council but they need to pay more attention to it. Also, they have too many people selling on the streets and the pavements. This leads to unfair competition and other problems for those who pay rent to the council.
However, I recently learnt that the submission of the report would be delayed because the Commissioner has to travel overseas urgently to treat with a health matter. I am not surprised because from what I have been reading in the press, the Commissioner has been really pushing himself to meet with different groups of people to listen to their concerns about the way the council is being run by the officials there.
Perhaps, he is trying his best to make sure his report is a big help to the City Council. I wish Commissioner Burrowes all the best. I know that he would be fine.
James Simmons
