Dear Editor,
I refer to the report in Kaieteur News (22 March 2009) concerning the assault and robbery I suffered whilst in Georgetown.
I would like to assure readers that this unfortunate experience will not prevent me from visiting Guyana in the future and I would urge others to visit the country.
Everyone I met – apart from the cab driver and accomplice – was most kind, helpful and friendly and it was a pleasure to travel in such a beautiful country.
The authorities, however, need to crack down on crime and make the city a safer place for everyone.
Finally, I need to pay a special “thank-you” to the staff at the guest house where I was staying who helped me so much and made me feel at home.
I will be back!
Bernie Melling
