National Fullbore champion Ransford Goodluck will have his work cut out when the Guyana National rifle Shooting Association brings off its Fullbore Championships which starts on Sunday at the Timehri Rifle Ranges, Yarrowkabra, Linden Soesdyke, Highway.
At the last championships which were held in November 2007, Goodluck had done enough on the first two days to stave off a spirited challenge from National Captain Mahendra Persaud on the third and final day to win.
Also expected to mount serious challenges to the leading riflemen are Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe whose form has been coming on in the past few weeks, the father / son combination of Richard and Dylan Fields, Ryan Sampson, Dane Blair and Claude Duguid among others.
Major Terry Stewart who won the O Class (junior) category will also start as favourite to retain the title but is expected to be challenged by his peers. According to national captain Persaud, the championships is also being used as warm up for the Caribbean Championships scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago, next month.
On day one, Sunday, competitors will shoot 2 rounds of 7 shots at the 300 yard range along with 2 rounds of 10 shots at 500 and 900 yard ranges.
Day two which will be contested on Saturday April 11, competition will be at the 300 (2 at 10) and 600 (2 at 7) yards while the final day, Sunday April 12, the action will end with 2 rounds of 7 at 500, 2rounds of 10 at 600 and 2 rounds of 10 at 1000. (Franklin Wilson)
