The Ministry of Education will be facilitating a group of educators from French Guiana over the next few days so that the latter could observe how education is delivered locally.
According to Coordinator of the Distance Education and Information Unit, Ms Pauline Stanford, 14 of the educators arrived in Guyana on Tuesday as part of a four-day academic field trip.
The delegation, Stanford said, comprises 13 primary school teachers and a language expert attached to the Ministry of Education in Cayenne.
Stanford pointed out that the educators will particularly be observing the teaching of English in primary level schools.
Yesterday the group commenced visiting various schools in the city, and on the East Bank, West Coast and West Bank of Demerara where they were able to observe classroom sessions and interface with teachers and pupils.
During their stay here, the visiting group members are scheduled to participate in a forum on the teaching of French and English as second languages.
Also as part of the visit, the French group will visit places of cultural and historical interest in Georgetown, including Castellani House, the National Library and the Museum.
According to Stanford, the visiting teachers will also join their local counterparts and Guyanese students in the staging of a cultural presentation at the Theatre Guild.
Additionally, Travise Tracey, a French Guiana Ministry of Foreign Affairs official, is also currently in Guyana to assist the planning of the forthcoming Inter-Guiana games, Stanford said.
And of course the trip could not be completed without the delegation paying a courtesy call on Minister of Education, Shaik Baksh, Stanford added.
Before departing on Friday, Stanford said that the delegation will share its experiences with the local media at a press briefing at the National Centre for Educational Research and Development slated for 10:00 hours on the same day.
