Operatives from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit-CANU on Saturday attacked the operations of drug dealers along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway during a massive search and destroy operation.
A total of nine fields of approximately four and a half acres containing 5,200 marijuana plants were uprooted and burnt.
These plants were in stages of two to eight weeks of growth. They also destroyed 5,000 seedlings.
During the operation, a number of items were seized from camps located close to the marijuana fields.
These items included chemicals (insecticide, herbicide, fertilizer), spraying equipment, irrigation pipes, one pump and four plastic drums. Continual surveillance will be conducted by CANU on these and surrounding areas with a view to ridding uninhabited areas on the Linden Highway of marijuana cultivation.
