Canadian national, Louis Vandercruiz, was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that the accused on March 31, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, had in his possession just over one kilogram of cocaine for the sole purpose of trafficking in narcotic.
He pleaded not guilty. He is being represented by attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson.
According to the lawyer, the drugs were never found in his client’s possession.
Thompson then asked the presiding magistrate if the matter could be transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for today.
Police Prosecutor Desiree Fowler objected to bail on the grounds that no special reasons were given.
Bail was denied and the accused is expected to make his next court appearance on Friday. The matter was also transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
Ranks from the Police Narcotics Branch allegedly nabbed Vandercruiz with a quantity of cocaine strapped to his body. He was an outgoing passenger on a Delta Airlines flight to Canada via New York.
