Dear Editor,
What is wrong with this country? Some of the outrageous things I read in the daily newspapers are really an assault on the mind.
Any teenager, any child, in fact anyone under the age of consent who has sex with an adult is being abused and is a victim of a criminal act.
But Ivelaw Whittaker, Public Relations and Press Officer of the Guyana Police Force clarified in a letter to the Guyana Chronicle (March 31st) that “a teenaged boy was not sexually molested but had engaged in sex with the homosexual.” The boy is 15 years old.
Apparently, in Guyana 15-year-old boys are mentally mature enough, they have their “own free will” to consent to being buggered by grown men; at least it is so in the eyes of certain high ranking police officers who do not see this as “sexual molestation.”
You people are hopeless! Totally.
Well, maybe not. Mr. Whittaker says investigations are continuing. Who knows, maybe the police will find a 10-year-old with “his own free will”.
