Dear Editor,
The first Caricom All Stars team was selected in August of 1981 after the successful hosting of the inaugural championship in Guyana.
Guyanese Hewley Harry, Stanislaus Hadmon and James Brusche had the honour of being the Land of Many Waters representatives; Harry was also selected on the All Stars team at the World Military Basketball Championship in Suriname 1984.
No Guyanese gained selection on Caricom All Stars team after Championships in Jamaica 1982, Barbados 1985, and Trinidad 1986.
The drought ended after the 1988 Championship in Guyana, guard Auric Tappin and power forward Leon Christian were selected on the Caricom team.
Tappin was rewarded again after the tournament in Jamaica 1991, at the conclusion of the 1994 tourney in Guyana, the trend continued with the selection of Leon Christian, Lugard Mohan and Steven Nurse.
Mohan was the lone Guyanese selected after the Bahamas Championship 1995.
Christian, Tappin and Mohan are the only players from the Land of Many Waters to have the privilege of being named twice on Caricom All Stars Teams.
Point guard Lugard Mohan is the only Guyanese player to ever aggregate over one hundred points at Caricom championships.
The swing man achieved the feat at the 1996 tournament in Trinidad & Tobago and 2000 at the championship in Barbados.
Other Guyanese to score over one hundred points at Championships are Stanislaus Hadmon 1981 in Guyana and Centre Lorenzo Withrite 1996 in Trinidad.
