Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) defeated Guyana National Industrial Engineering Corporation (GNIEC) in last weekend’s play of the Cummings Electrical and Raymond Panday second division cricket competition run by the Georgetown Cricket Association. Batting 1st GYO made 150 then restricted GNIEC to 109 in the first innings.
Samuel Ward top scored with 26, while Vijay Gangaram 25, Jermaine Reynolds 23 and Brandon Chanderpaul 19 all chipped in for GYO.
J. Grosvenor top scored for GNIEC with 51. Bowling for GYO, Johnathan Alphonso had excellent figures of 9 overs, 1 maiden, 15 runs, 7 wickets. Devendra Deosarran chipped in with 2 wickets.
Batting a second time GYO could only muster 88. Vijay Gangaram 30 and Brandon Chanderpaul 13 were the principle scorers.
Chasing 129 for victory GNIEC were skittled out for 107. Johnathan Alphonso claimed 4 wickets for 35 runs to give him match figures of 11 wickets, while Devendra Deosarran had 5 wickets for 44 runs to bringing his tally in the game to 7 wickets.
