Burgess was described as a true friend of the club who has contributed tremendously towards the RHTY&SC being the best in Guyana.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster in paying tribute to Burgess stated that since his arrival in Guyana back in 2000, he has played a major role in the club’s rapid development as a sponsor, advisor, friend and a role model.
“From 2000 to 2006 as Managing Director of Courts he ensured the company’s sponsorship of the first division team and after he left Courts, his own business Windies Sports Bar took over the sponsorship.
Over the last 3 years he invested over $1m of his own funds to sponsor the teams, annual awards ceremony, annual youth magazine, Christmas charity programme and cricket academy among others.”
Describing Mr. Burgess as a beloved friend, Foster expressed gratitude to him (Burgess) and stated that the club would forever be thankful for his assistance, advice and guidance. Among the fruits of Burgess’ sponsorship and partnership with the club are Assad Fudadin, Esuan and Royston Crandon.
An emotional Burges in reply stated that he was pleasantly surprised to be honoured by the club. Stating that it was a privilege to be associated with the leading club in Guyana, he noted that his support of the organisation was because of its outstanding work and record of achievement as well as it’s honestly.
Burgess, who pledged to continue his support of the club from the United Kingdom and challenged club members to uphold their high standard, was presented with a special DVD that was produced for him along with other gifts.
