The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Sunday last recognised the performances of its leading male and female cricketers, workers, sponsors and the media for 2008 at an impressive awards ceremony held at the JC Chandisingh Secondary School, Rose Hall Corentyne, Berbice.
This annual awards function, number 18 in the history of the club which was formed by a group of young men with a yearning for guiding young people in the right direction back in 1990, was graced with the presence of number of top business and cricket executives.
Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company Marketing Director Wyston Robertson delivered the feature address which was focused on “My formula for success/guidance for the youth.”
Robertson, in his introductory remarks highlighted the redefining definitions of success or successful lifestyles which haunts today’s society more so, the youth.
“For me, as a product of a God fearing family, success is defined by ‘right living’ and enhancing that relationship with your maker. I believe that each one of us are put on this earth for a purpose, each one of us has a contribution to make that helps with the growth and development of mankind.”
The GT&T Executive, who had the rapt attention of the audience, was very spiritual and philosophical in his advice to the young people using many quotes from internationally renowned and respected authors, the likes of David Starr Jordan, Steven Covey, Helen Keller and the Greek philosopher Plato, to emphasize his points. He also used a quote from the Holy Scriptures, Galatians 5: 19-20.
Robertson urged the gathering, especially the awardees, to be honest, hard working, disciplined in their approach to life and the sport of their choice.

The club she said has channeled its energies towards sports and education over the years and has matured and expanded into a dynamic entity that continues the battle to protect our young people from the negative influences that we face on a daily basis.
“Besides establishing itself as a veritable training ground for some of our nation’s finest young people, the club has also organised several programmes for the benefit of the community and I applaud them for their initiative and dedication. I’m indeed proud and honored to be associated with the club.”
Ms. Mendez encouraged the club executive and members to continue to move mountains and to make the community a safer place for all.

“Our passion for success is still very strong and we are fully committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others. We would continue to do so with our proven formula of hard work, discipline, dedication, faith in our God, honesty and a faith in our ability to get things done.”
Foster also highlighted the challenges faced as regards the attitude of the youth which the club will continue to address. DVD presentations of the club’s achievements 1990 – 2007 and 2008 were also done; perhaps the first of its kind for sports organisations in Guyana.
