Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle applauded the effort of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation on Sunday when he said that the Fitness Day fits into the ministry’s programme.
The Organisation hosted an inaugural ‘Fitness Day’ activity in the vicinity of Main Street Amelia’s Ward where scores of ‘Lindeners’ turned out to witness the various cycling events and enjoy the ‘Fun Day’ atmosphere.
“This [the event] fits into our ministry’s ‘Fit for Life’ programme. We have been calling on communities to mobilise such activities and the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation has taken up the mantle,” Ninvalle told Kaieteur Sport at the event.
The Parliamentary Secretary indicated that such activities help build communities and act as a form of unity. He said it is a very important function of a community–based ‘Fitness Day’ apart from the physical aspects of activities.
“Apart from the competition and the physical component, everyone can enjoy themselves and our ministry is in full support of this [the ‘Fitness Day’]. We hope other communities would take a similar pattern,” he encouraged.
Cycling events for all ages dominated the proceedings as the well–organised activity got support from the public in terms of participation and patronage. The Guyana Police Force also assisted with maintaining order on Sunday.
Scores of residents and tourists to the Mining Town flocked the road sides to get a glance at the events as others resorted to the established tents to enjoy the lime in scorching sunshine in the closely–knitted community.
